8 Real Couples on Why They Chose Platinum
We love to publish engagement announcements. It is such a joy to share romantic and meaningful proposal stories and so much fun to look at ring selfies. We have witnessed a new and exciting trend happening in the past couple of years in the bridal industry: customized engagement rings. The process of designing your own engagement ring is a one-of-a-kind experience. The stone and the setting are equally important choices couples have to make. Continue reading to meet 8 couples who picked platinum settings and the reasons behind their choices.
Gabrielle & Eli
Eli proposed to Gabrielle on top of the CN Tower in Toronto with the help of a cellist and violinist. Her ring is a 1.6 carat oval diamond set in platinum.
“Platinum is hypoallergenic and it gets an antique looking finish after some years called the patina finish and I am looking forward to that.”
Danny and Amirah
Danny dropped to one knee in front of Amirah during a fairytale Bali proposal. He was the one who made the decision to pick platinum. The ring features a 1.12 total carat cushion cut diamond (VVS2, D color, Excellent Symmetry).
“When I was researching the ring I discovered that platinum is a stronger metal and more durable than white gold.”
Kevin & Patricia
Kevin and Patricia also got engaged in Bali. The ring is a beautiful 1 carat pear center diamond, with 2 smaller round diamonds on either side. The undercarriage detail reflects a peony, her favorite flower, and purple sapphires to reflect her birthstone in her favorite color.
“Patricia wanted a silver colored band, and platinum was the most durable option. Also, it does not lose its whiteness so that’s why I went that route.”
Victoria & Kevin
Kevin proposed to Victoria in Hoboken, NJ with the New York skyline as a backdrop. Victoria decided on a 2-tone ring.
“My crown is in platinum. The band is yellow gold and the setting is platinum as to not discolor the diamond. A platinum crown was suggested by our jeweler since the metal is stronger and would better match the quality of the diamond.”
Erin-Allyn & Jonathan
Jonathan proposed to Erin-Allyn in a bar in front of all their friends. Her ring features a 1.5 carat diamond set in platinum on an 18K rose gold band.
“Jonathan had the store make the ring specifically for me. He chose a platinum crown and designed the ring himself. He told the jeweler he wanted to make sure the diamond stayed in place since I am clumsy with my hands and prone to knocking things over he wanted to make sure it was set in place.”
Karen & Manny
Manny proposed to Karen at her parents’ house with special lights and signs. It is a 3 carat round diamond with a 1 carat halo setting to signify the unity of their new family.
“Manny picked platinum, he wanted the ring to last forever just like our love… He said platinum is stronger and more durable and I’m not much of a gold person anyway.”
Kim and Dawn
Dawn proposed to Kim in Santorini, Greece on her 30th birthday. The ring was picked out one year before the engagement! Dawn knew Kim wanted a radiant cut diamond ring. On their first date Kim actually showed Dawn a picture of the ring she wanted one day and Dawn managed to steal a picture and kept it until it was time. Kim always knew she wanted a platinum engagement ring.
“I chose platinum because I love how clean and elegant it looks…I wanted something that looks timeless and platinum was it for me.”
Farren & Nicholas
Farren and Nicholas got engaged during a sunset proposal in Turks and Caicos with a surprise appearance from her family. Her brother filmed the whole thing with a drone. The ring is a 2.2 carat cushion cut set in a platinum band. Nicholas was the one who decided on platinum.
“I picked it as the diamond jeweler said it would last longer and look better with the the platinum setting he had available.”
