There are so many great movie and TV proposals! I had such a fun and tearful time watching clips of beloved fictional characters getting engaged while researching this article. Here are five of my favorites with amazing bling and exciting back stories.

High Society: Grace Kelly’s Engagement Ring
Back in the Golden Age (cough, or platinum age!) of Hollywood, it was not unusual for actresses to wear their own high jewelry pieces in movies as American actresses were big jewelry collectors in those days. The bigger the jewels, the more adored and successful the actress. Grace Kelly’s engagement ring, a Cartier platinum stunner with a 10.47 emerald cut diamond center and side diamond baguettes became a prop for her character of divorcée, Tracy Lord, in High Society. Prince Rainier first proposed to Grace with an understated European style diamond and ruby band… someone must have had a talk with the man on how inappropriate this choice was for a major Hollywood star! He went back to Cartier and ordered a suitable upgrade.

Titanic: Rose’s Deco Engagement Ring
Rose DeWitt Bukater, Kate Winslet’s character in Titanic, wears a Deco style engagement ring prop, featuring graduated diamond baguettes. Although Rose is unhappy with her arranged engagement to her high-class fiance, the iconic ring was beautiful and has a fascinating history. The prop was inspired by a platinum ring that was found in the Titanic’s wreckage and jewels worn by first class passengers at the time.

Legally Blonde 2: Elle Woods’ Pink Stunner
“Whoever said orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed!” says Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods, who is obsessed with pink. It’s her signature color and her brand. I love that her fiancé, Emmet (played by Luke Wilson), picked an engagement ring that is unique and very ‘her’! He was definitely aiming at finding her dream ring. It is a fabulous Harry Winston ring with a whopping 5-carat cushion-cut hot pink sapphire. This gorgeous gemstone is set in platinum and surrounded by 2 trillion cut diamonds.

Sweet Home Alabama: Melanie’s Tiffany Proposal
Reese Witherspoon’s characters seems to get engaged and married in movies quite often! The most iconic proposal she receives is when her character Melanie Smoother in Sweet Home Alabama is proposed to by her boyfriend, Andrew (played by Patrick Dempsey) at the 5th Avenue Tiffany & Co. store. The scene takes place after hours and the store is fully staffed so she can experience a private, luxury shopping experience to choose her own ring. She chooses a cushion cut center in a platinum setting.
#IRL Fun fact: Nick Jonas proposed to his wife Priyanka Chopra the exact same way in 2018.

Friends: Monica’s 3-stone Ring
Have you heard the news? After 16 years, there is finally a Friends reunion in the works. If you are true Friends fan then you must remember the episode where Chandler proposes to Monica and vice versa. Though the ring is an antique in the script, the prop ring was provided by Tacori. It’s a 1.5 carat princess cut diamond, hugged with special trillion-cut blue sapphires on each side. Made in platinum, this ring features a wheat patterned hand-engraving detail on the body of the ring which symbolizes abundance, life and fertility and also secret scrolling hearts underneath the crown of the ring for the most romantic gesture.
