Art Deco Diamond and Platinum Poplar Brooch
Now this certainly isn’t something seen every day: a diamond and platinum poplar brooch, circa 1920s, from the collection of Simon Teakle. Flora and fauna were beloved subjects during the Art Deco period and while the poplar tree is less frequently seen, its column-like height makes for a striking and very geometric platinum jewel. Paired with mixed-cut diamonds set securely for a lifetime, the impact is truly invigorating. Poplar symbolizes a woman’s beauty in Ukranian folklore and was also the most common support used in Renaissance paintings; three guesses as to the type of wood framing the Mona Lisa!
